Annual Meeting Minutes – Friday, October 19, 2007
 

The Missouri Section of the American Institute of Professional Geologists held its annual meeting on Saturday, October 22, 2005.  The meeting was held at the Harrisonville City Park, Harrisonville, Missouri.  Present at the meeting were the following:

Call to Order

·      President Kerry Nikolaisen called the meeting to order at 11:20 a.m.  A quorum of 8 was present.

Minutes

·      Nikolaisen passed out copies of the minutes from the August 25, 2007 meeting and the October 15, 2007 treasurer’s report (attached).  The treasurer’s report stated that the Section had $14,147.14

·      Davis made the following motion and Garstang seconded the motion,

      MOTION:  The Section accepts the minutes and Treasurer’s report as       written.

      MOTION PASSED

2007 Review

·      AIPG assisted in drafting dam legislation.  Members attended several meetings and met with legislators

·      The Section testified on a MOU between the Missouri Geology Registration Board and the Missouri Engineering Board.

·      AIPG, AEG, and the Geo Institute are working on a policy defining what different occupations do.  The document is in final revision and will be sent to member committees for review.

·      In February, AIPG and AEG held a capitol drive-in.

AIPG annual meeting summary

Peter Price represented the Section during the national annual meeting at the 2007 and 2008 Advisory Board meetings.  He made the following report.

·      The AIPG President wants to be informed when the Section is involved in influencing legislation

·      Bill Siok, executive director, would like the Section to write an article on the legislation we worked on this year.

·      Siok asked for information on how we got the Geological Registration legislation passed.

·      2008 will be the Year of the Planet Earth

·      Currently there are a lot of jobs in energy and environment

·      AIPG has a low active membership

·      John Bognar was elected President –Elect for 2008

The Section officially thanked Peter Price for representing the Section at the annual meeting.

2008 Section Officers

·      There was discussion on who would be the Section President–Elect for 2008.  No conclusion was reached.

·      At the current time, the ballot will have George Davis as President and Alice Fuerst as Secretary/Treasurer.

Ideas For 2008

·      Price will organize a legislative handshake for February

·      Earthquake awareness is the month of February

·      We will consider financially sponsoring an underground mine meeting and having a table at it.

·      Vineyard alerted the members of a situation to watch.  Any person can declare themselves a village and bypass state rules.  This could affect groundwater.

·      Gomer will chair a committee to develop a mailing to AMG members about membership into AIPG

·      Davis plans to visit UMC to talk about student membership

·      Williams will continue to be on the screening committee.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:30.  An AMG field trip followed the meeting.
