This 390 page book includes many photographs, a Who's Who/Who Was Who in AIPG, and more than 70 selected speeches and papers by CPGs. Find answers to questions like: How did AIPG really get started? Education for Professional Practice (Revised - February 2007)
The National Screening Committee (NSC) has struggled with the problem of inconsistencies in curricula for many years. Over time, an informal consensus has evolved among its members as to "what every geologist should know." This publication summarizes the deliberations and decisions of an ad hoc committee on curriculum, with input from the experiences of the NSC in reviewing the qualifications of geologists applying for Institute certification, and the extensive review and study on the Committee for Cooperative Evaluation of Geology Departments. The pamphlet provides recommendations to college and university geology departments about the necessary skills and core geology courses that students need to be adequately rained in the field of geology.
Citizens' Guide to Geologic Hazards (1993)
If you have wondered about the actual dangers of asbestos, radon, earthquakes, etc., that are mentioned but not explained very well in the news, then this book is certainly for you. The book was commissioned by the AIPG to give readers knowledge that will save lives and dollars. It explains geologic hazards, the risks these hazards pose, and how professional geologists help to mitigate these risks. The book was written for non-scientists, especially planners, contractors, homeowners, elected officials, insurance underwriters, lenders and financiers, realtors, science teachers, and students. Although geologists have the knowledge that can help reduce the risks, the value of this knowledge will increase greatly when the majority of citizens also understand the hazards and can upgrade public policies that will guarantee that available knowledge is used.
The Professional Geologist (6 issue subscription)
The Professional Geologist (TPG) is published by the American Institute of Professional Geologists and provides a forum for discussion and dissemination of professional and scientific information in all areas of geology. TPG is distributed to over 5,500 members, businesses, libraries, universities/colleges, and government agencies.
Geological Ethics and Professional Practices 1987-current
The central focus of this CD is, of course, on ethics as a part of geologic professionalism. AIPG has been at the forefront of promoting a concern with professional ethics and of setting ethical standards for its members and for the geologic profession as a whole. Without a high and rigorously enforced code of ethics, the public, whom we try to serve, will have no faith in our technical competence. There are not always easy answers to making ethical decisions. This CD provides a thoughtful compendium, not only of the Institute's current positions on ethics but also provides an informed discussion of various viewpoints on the application of ethical principles to real life situations. Five dollars from every CD sold will be donated to the AIPG Foundation.
Reflections on a Geological Career - Fourth Electronic Edition (2002)
This fourth electronic edition of Reflections on a Geologic Career expands on the original edition prepared after the Colorado Section's Student Day in 1996. It includes papers in the handouts distributed during the Student Days hosted by the Arizona and Colorado Sections in the fall of 1998. The oral origin of the papers is obvious and generally makes them easier to read. This electronic edition is to ensure wide distribution and use by students everywhere. Copy freely as long as proper referencing and acknowledgments are made.
