You may apply online for Professional Member, Young Professional Member, Associate and Student Membership. To do this you will need to click on Sign up for an individual account. All other categories of membership the forms must be printed out and mailed in. The CPG application form (Section X) must be notarized.

AIPG Membership Categories and Requirements
Certified Professional Geologist (CPG)
Applicants for certification have a bachelor’s degree or higher in the geological sciences with a minimum of 36 semester hours of geology plus 8 years of professional geological work experience. Applicants with a master’s degree need only 7 years of experience and Ph.D’s need only 5 years.
EDUCATION: 36 semester or 54 quarter hours in geological sciences with a baccalaureate or higher degree; certified copy of official transcripts must be sent by each college or university
EXPERIENCE: 8 years beyond bachelor's degree, or 7 years beyond master's degree, or 5 years beyond doctorate
SPONSORS: 3 required from professional geologists, 2 of whom must be CPG's (see Section 2.3.1 of the Bylaws for exceptions)
SCREENING: Section and National
APPLICATION FEE: $50 (to upgrade from Registered Member or Member to CPG, the fee is $35)
ANNUAL DUES: $145 plus Section dues; both prorated for remainder of year when accepted.
Professional Member
Geologists who do not yet meet the education and experience requirements for CPG or do not see a need for certification by the institute may apply to become a Professional Member. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or higher in the geological sciences with at least 30 semester hours of geology.
EDUCATION: 30 semester or 45 quarter hours in geological sciences* with a baccalaureate or higher degree.
EXPERIENCE: No proof required
CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: None required
SCREENING: None required
SIGN-UP AMOUNT: If you apply Dec-Mar= $100; Apr-Jun= $75; Jul-Sept= $50; Oct- Nov= $25

ANNUAL DUES: $105 plus Section dues

Young Professional Member
Geologists who do not yet meet the education and experience requirements for CPG may apply to become a Professional Member. Applicants must apply during first three years upon earning a baccalaureate.
EDUCATION: 30 semester or 45 quarter hours in geological sciences* with a baccalaureate or higher degree.
EXPERIENCE: Must apply during first three years upon earning a baccalaureate.
CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: None required
SCREENING: None required
SIGN-UP AMOUNT: If you apply December - June = $50; July - November = $25

*Note to those who received their degrees from non-U.S./Canadian universities. If you received a degree from a university or college outside the U.S. or Canada, and the school is unable to provide an acceptable transcript, you must submit a copy of your diploma and a list of courses taken. The Screening Committee may ask you to provide additional information or an equivalency evaluation, at your expense.
AIPG Corporate Membership
Benefits
- The corporate member may advertise its Corporate Member Status.
- The company will be listed on the AIPG website and in “The Professional Geologist” as a Corporate Member. (Submit your 3 3/8” x 1 3/4” black and white advertisement.)
- Annual Corporate Membership dues include the annual membership dues of one Certified Professional Geologist and regular AIPG Memberships, depending upon the Corporate Membership Level selected.
- Corporate Members receive discounts on publications and other AIPG items.
- Corporate Members may utilize AIPG’s job search/placement system at Member rates.
- Corporate Members may participate in any AIPG benefit programs.
- Corporate Membership supports AIPG advocacy on behalf of the geologic profession.
Corporate Membership Requirements
- The Corporation must be engaged in the practice of geology and geoscience and submit documentation of the Corporation’s professional qualifications.
- The Corporation must have a Certified Professional Geologist (CPG) in a position of senior responsibility who is designated as the Corporation’s representative and who is responsible for the Corporation’s compliance with AIPG Corporate Membership Requirements
- The Corporation’s practice of geology and geoscience at all locations must be conducted under the supervision and review of CPG’s.
- The Corporation will uphold the Code of Ethics and the Bylaws of the Institute.
- Cost: Application Fee: $100.00
- Annual Dues: Based on Corporate Membership Level.

AIPG Corporate Patron
Benefits
- A Corporate Patron receives one invoice instead of multiple invoices for the AIPG Members included on the list they provide. Anyone listed that is not an AIPG Member must submit an application and be accepted before they can be included on the Corporate Patron's list.
- A Corporate Patron may advertise as an AIPG Corporate Patron.
- A Corporate Patron may utilize AIPG’s job search/placement system at Member rates.
Corporate Patron Requirements
- An AIPG Corporate Patron form must be filled out and include a list of all AIPG Members the Corporate Patron agrees to be invoiced for. The annual dues for CPG is $145.00 plus section dues and for Member it is $105.00 plus section dues.
